Know Your Routes: Route 440

The 440:
The longer one out of the two, runs between Chiswick, Power Road to Stonebridge Park. The route uses 07reg plated Enviro 200's, maybe the first of it's type, and is operated by London United from their Park Royal (PK) garage.

Like the 272, the 440 replaced former route H40 from Turnham Green then continued its own way to Stonebridge Park. The route was operated by Transdev London from there Stamford Brook Garage using Plaxton Pointer 2's.

In 2007, the route was won by devoloping company, NCP-Challenger, who opened up today's Park Royal (PK) garage, where the route is operated from. At the same time, new buses were introduced onto 440 numbered in NCP's fleet system which the code for E200 that were 10.2m was ADL. These were one of the first Enviro 200's to enter service in Britain.

In 2008, the 440 faced a short extension from Turnham Green to Power Road via Oxford Road North and Wellesley Road via the back of Gunnersbury Station in swap with H91 which would go straight instead of Oxford Road North.

In 2009, NCP Challenger were bought out by London United RATP Group and all the "ADL's" were renumbered into LU's fleetnumbers "DE's". All the NCP logos were replaced with London United stickers.

In 2012, some of the 440's DE's transferred to S after C1's/272's transfer. These vehicles were DE85-92.

Nowadays, SDE's from the E11 and OV's from 283 escpae onto the route. I do have a shot of an SDE on the route below:

  1. Looks as if most, if not all, of the 283's fleet's up there.
If possible, could you do the 283, as it's my local route?
