It is a strange time we live in. However as all of you hopefully know, Coronavirus is a very real problem which is threatening our daily lives.

This page will contain the information we need to know on how this is affecting the transport network. Government guidelines have now been mostly relaxed and you are free to travel on the London transport network once again for leisure journeys.

However, when travelling you must wear a face covering as it is now a legal requirement. Make sure that it covers your mouth and your nose. Not all people can wear face coverings, exemptions do apply but is not limited to; those under 11, those with hidden or visible disabilities, those in severe pain or distress when travelling with a face mask and those who need, or are supporting those who need, to lip read. Those that don't wear a face covering may be refused entry onto the transport network or may even be fined a large sum of money by enforcement officers.

Please practice social distancing on all buses. Different buses, depending on the type and length will have new capacity limits introduced. Double deckers can hold 30 passengers, longer single deckers can hold around 14 and shorter single deckers, 10. Some seats have been closed off with tape or sashes to protect you and the driver; please don't sit here.

Leave an empty seat between you and others, unless travelling together with another person or a group of people. Carry a bottle of water with you whilst travelling and always wash your hands before and after travelling. You may find that travelling in the off-peak (outside of 6-9am and 4-7pm weekdays) may provide a more comfortable experience.

If you do need to travel to Heathrow Airport overnight:

You may need to, depending on what area of London you are coming from, use one of a number of night bus routes that operate to Heathrow Terminals 2, 3 and 5 at night (there are no night buses, or night tube to Terminal 4).

Route N9 operates between Heathrow Terminals 2, 3 and 5 and Aldwych in Central London mostly mirroring the Piccadilly line. Buses stop a short walk away or directly outside these Piccadilly line stations:

  • Covent Garden
  • Piccadilly Circus
  • Green Park
  • Hyde Park Corner
  • Knightsbridge
  • Hammersmith
  • Turnham Green
  • Hounslow East
  • Hounslow Central
  • Hounslow West
  • Heathrow Airport Terminals 2, 3 and 5
Other routes including routes 105, 111, 285 and N140 operate to and from Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3, and link with the likes of Kingston, Southall, Greenford, Hayes, Harrow and Hampton every 30 minutes throughout the night.

For stations between Hammersmith and Knightsbridge, there is another night bus route, the N97 which runs every 30 minutes through the night and stops outside or nearby the following Piccadilly line stations:

  • Hammersmith
  • Earls Court
  • Gloucester Road
  • South Kensington
  • Knightsbridge
  • Hyde Park Corner
  • Green Park
  • Piccadilly Circus
You can change between the two night routes at Hammersmith Bus Station.
