Know Your Express Routes: Route 607

Not that we have many express routes nowadays, with only 3 existing in London (X26 and X68 being the others), this is the last part of Know Your Routes; Routes 207,427 and 607.
The 607 is a unique route which is the only TfL route in London that has white blinds instead of the usual green, besides the NB4L's on 38(X).

The 607 runs the full length of Uxbridge Road, so it's 207 and 427 put together. Although a route between Shepherd's Bush and Uxbridge would be a hell of a long route, that is why the 607 was made an express bus route (Or there would be no point of 207/427).

The route used to run between Shepherds Bush Green and Uxbridge on a Monday to Saturday basis and doesnt run in the early mornings nor late evenings.

The number is a rather weird one as bus routes in the 600's would be a school route, however 607's number came from the former trolleybus route 607 before they were outdated and replaced with buses, like the 607.

The route started in 1990 using MCW Metrobuses until the 2000's when they were replaced with brand new, low floor Trident 2's/Plaxton Presidents.

In 2008, around Christmas, the 607 was extended from Shepherds Bush to the brand new and modern White City Bus Station, along with several other bus routes.

In 2010, TfL decided to introduce a Sunday service on the 607 with one bus running every 12-20 minutes.

In 2012, First retained the contract of 607, however First had a lot of surplus buses at the time and thought they should move some of them onto 607 leaving the Presidents relieved. The Ex-23 DN's were moved to Uxbridge although the 55reg VNW's were first refurbished before starting work on the 607. First transferred 11 VNW's and 11 DN's to Uxbridge. Rarely would you see these vehicles on a route other than 607!

Until today, there is no late evening services and in most areas last buses are somwhere during the 9pm hour.

  1. I wished 607 had a (slightly) earlier Saturday and Sunday service, and less stops, to be honest, to become a true limited stop... My opinion, though...
