Know Your Routes: Route 283

YJ09 EYY/ OV61 picks up passengers at Adelaide Grove, halfway through the journey to East Acton.

We receive post requests every now and then. We usually try our best to cover them like this post. This post is dedicated to a loyal reader, James Panaligan  who works at the brilliant WLTM who sent us a request a while ago.

An interesting route the 283 is, has 3 different ends on the route. The route starts at the back streets of East Acton, in Brunel Road along with the 7 and 72. The route actually duplicates the 72 quite a lot until Westway where the route goes around White City Estate to come out of Bloemfontain Road (If that's how you spell it) to follow the 207/260/607 towards Shepherd's Bush. After an interesting wonder around the housing area of Queen's Park Ranger (QPR) football ground, the route reunites with long lost 72 at Shepherd's Bush Green.  Both routes then go to Hammermsith at the upper bus station before crossing the River Thames to arrive at Barnes, Red Lion. From here, there are two branches the 283 goes. The route can go to:

- Barnes, Wetland Centre during the centre's opening hours.
- Barnes Pond outside the Wetland Centre's opening hours.

The bus then terminates at Barnes Pond/ Wetland Centre after a trip that took roughly 40 minutes.

The route in 2003 used to be operated by Transdev from Stamford Brook (V) garage using the ever so popular Dennis Pointer 2 on the Dart SLF chassis. These buses were strongly liked before the Enviro 200 came to replace it.

In 2009, NCP Challenger or NSL group won the contract for the 283 operating it from Park Royal (PK) garage where it is still operated from today. Weirdly, instead of ordering the timeless Enviro 200, NSL went for an uncommon type of single-deck - The Optare Versa.

Later in 2009, Transdev came and took over the company however buses still had the NSL stickers for a while before being replaced by Transdev.

In 2011, Transdev was bought out by RATP Group, London United. This meant once again, the Transdev logo was taken off the buses and soon replaced by London United.

Today sees the 283 still running pretty well by London United who would more than likely retain the route soon.
