Know Your Routes: Route 220

ADE60 heads to Park Royal garage, off route. This picture was taken on a 266 (Upper deck) heading towards Brent Cross. Hence the reflection in the picture.
London United's route 220 was successfully retained in October last year. During this event, several things happened to the 220.

The 220 is a North to South route, starting at Willesden Junction Station, making its way through Harlesden Town Centre, weirdly not stopping at the Jubilee Clock, going back to Willesden Junction Station but for a path to the station, then to turn into Scrubs Lane. From here, the route leaves North West London to enter the busy White City after dashing through Mitre Bridge. From here, the route follows the 295 to Hammersmith to go through Putney. Now, the route crosses the River Thames using Putney Bridge to arrive at Wandsworth where the bus terminates in the town centre.

In 2010, the route was operated at Shepherd's Bush (S) garage using older VA's which were aging very quickly. In October the same year,  route 94 gained some new buses (ADH's) which relieved work for 22 TLA's. These TLA's were shifted onto 220 allowing the VA's to settle elsewhere.

Bringing us to October 2012, LU retained the contract for 220 which specified for new vehicles. The new buses were in the form of Alexander Dennis Enviro 400's these being the second batch in London United's fleet, the first at Hounslow (AV). These were numbered ADE46 - ADE72.

Also came a twist, at the same time 220's daytime allocation would transfer to Park Royal (PK) which is 1 minute drive from Willesden Junction in a swap with C1 and 272 which will transfer to Shepherd's Bush (S).

The night allocation for 220 would remain at Shepherd's Bush (S) to use existing Hybrids. ADH3 - ADH22 from 94's allocation was chosen as 94 only uses around 3-5 buses a night. I have seen a hybrid on 220 but that was before I started this blog and bus photography.
