Bus News: Summer 2016 (Part 1)

First of all, huge apologies go out to how infrequent this series of posts are, now. I have been incredibly busy with major changes and experiences taking place over the last few months - it's been hard to collect the time to write a post.

Obviously, I have left out this series for too long meaning the amount of news that has accumulated over the months, meaning the post will have to be divided into two or three separate posts that will be released into early August.

Tender Update:

Tranche 532:
Routes 1, N1, 42, 108, 132, 180 and 185 have all been retained by Go-Ahead London.

Routes 1 and N1 are to receive Wright Gemini 3 (WHV) class buses from Mandela Way (MW).

Route 42 is to be double decked with brand new hybrid buses. The route will be withdrawn from Sunray Avenue, Denmark Hill and be extended to East Dulwich, Sainsbury's via East Dulwich Grove, on the 1st October 2016.


 MEC42 takes some stand time on a 108 duty at Stratford,
curtailed to North Greenwich. 
Route 108 is to be allocated a full allocation of Citaros from routes 507/521 somepoint in September. On the 1st October, the route will be altered north of the River Thames. The route will swap with D8 - going via All Saints, Devons Road, Bow, Carpenters Road and then via Stratford City to terminate at Stratford International Station. The D8 will terminate at Stratford Bus Station instead, and run via Bromley-by-Bow.

Routes 132 and 180 is to be allocated Gemini 2 buses ex-route 21 and 63.

Route 185 is to be allocated brand new MCV Evoseti  buses (MHV) from Camberwell (Q) garage.

All contracts start on the 1st October 2016. No routes were extended within this tranche.

Tranche 533:
Routes 137/N137, 160, 199, 381/N381, 660 and P13 have been retained by their respective companies with existing vehicles. Unless specified below, the routes will continue to use the current vehicles operating the route.

Alongside the existing vehicles, 199 is to gain a part allocation of brand new Enviro 400 MMC buses.

Routes 381/N381 is to use the buses from Battersea (QB) routes 3 and 211. Contract (alongside route P13) is to start on the 8th October 2016. 

Route P13 is to get a partial allocation of brand new Enviro 200 MMC buses to replace the 54-reg Plaxton Pointer buses.

All other routes start on the 17th September 2016.


Tranche 534:
Route D3 has been retained at Stagecoach London with existing Enviro 200s from West Ham (WH). Route D7 has also been retained by Go-Ahead London with existing Gemini 2 (WVL) buses. Start date for both routes is the 17th September 2016.

Route 276 and Route 376 have been retained by Go Ahead London and will continue to use their Enviro200 buses. The new contract starts on the 17th of September 2016


Tranche 535:
Route 346 has been awarded from Arriva London to Go-Ahead London from River Road (RR) garage. The route will use SE232-234 ex-W19. Start date 1st October 2016.

Route W19 has been awarded from Go-Ahead London to CT Plus from their brand new Walthamstow Stadium (AW) garage. It will use brand new 9.6m Enviro 200 MMC buses, and the route will continue serving Argall Avenue during the working hours. Start date 26th November 2016.

Route 193 has had it's contract extended for two years.

Tranche 537 REITERATION:
Routes 16/N16, 32, 107, 189 and 316 have been retained by Metroline. Unless specified, the routes will continue utilising the current vehicles.

Route 16 is to have the PVR increased back by 5.
Route 32 is to be allocated Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 Hybrid buses ex-189.
Route 189 is to be allocated brand new Wright Borismaster buses.
Route 316 is to be converted to double deck operation. It will more than likely use the TA-class buses in the short run, however this will change in the future.

Routes 79, 223 and 224 have had their contracts extended by two-years. Remember that route 79 transfers to Perivale East (PV) on the 6th August 2016 with SEL-class buses.

All routes starting new contracts begin on the 8th October 2016.

Tranche 538:
Routes 279/N279, 313 and W3 have been retained by Arriva London using their existing allocated vehicles. Routes 279/N279 and W3 begin on the 15th October 2016 whilst route 313 begins on the 5th November 2016. 

Route 144 has had it's contract extended by two years.



Tranche 540:
Routes 38/N38 and 221 retained by Arriva London. Routes 38/N38 to use existing Wright Borismaster buses from Clapton (CT) garage beginning 12th November 2016 whilst route 221 is to use the Ts off route 133, and DWs off the 242 on the 5th November 2016.

Routes 73/N73 have had their contract extended by two years.

Tranche 541:
Routes 14, 39, 74/N74 and 430 have all been retained by Go-Ahead London. All routes are to get new buses, although 39 will use 8 SENs ex-route 368 which are undergoing a refurbishment.

Routes 14, 74/N74 and 430 are all getting brand new hybrid double deckers. Route 14 is getting Enviro 400 MMC bodied Volvo B5L Hybrids (EHV) buses, whilst 74 and 430 are getting Wright Gemini 3 bodied Volvo B5L Hybrids (WHV) buses.

Route 39 is getting a partial new allocation of Wright StreetLite buses. It will continue to operate from Plough Lane (PL).

All contracts start on the 19th November 2016.

Tranche 542:
Route 436 retained by Go-Ahead London, with a PVR decrease to 21 using the current hybrid buses operating on the route. The route will be withdrawn between Paddington and Vauxhall, and diverted to Battersea Park as part of the regeneration of the Nine Elms area. The 36 will have a PVR and frequency increase in it's place to around one every 3 minutes. Start date 19th November 2016.

Routes 12 and 453 have had their contracts extended by two years.

Tranche 543:
Routes 290, H20, H26 (from tranche 547 - fits in with relevance, hence posted here), U7 and U9 have all been retained by Abellio London from Twickenham (the first three routes) or Hayes (the last two routes). 

Route 290 is to continue using it's existing 61-plate Enviro 200 buses.
Routes H20, H26 and U9 are to get brand new Enviro 200 MMC buses that are 8.9m in length. Route U7 is to get buses off the 117.

This award may see off 8466 (GM03 TGM) from route U7. 

Route H25 has had it's contract extended by two years.
Route 290's contract starts on the 1st October 2016.
Routes H20 and U7's contracts start on the 19th November 2016.
Route U9's contract starts on the 31st December 2016.
Route H26's contract starts on the 7th January 2017.

Tranche 544:
Route 152 has been awarded from Abellio London to Go-Ahead London from Merton (AL) garage with existing single deckers.

Route 157 has been awarded from Abellio London to Arriva London from Norwood (N) using the buses ex-133. 

Route 413 has been awarded from Go-Ahead London to Quality Line from Epsom (EB) using brand new Mercedes Citaro K buses.

Route 931 has been retained by Abellio London using a bus ex-S4 or ex-367.



Route 655 has been retained by Go-Ahead London using an existing double decker.

Route 452 has had it's contract extended by two years. 

All contract start dates on the 3rd December 2016.

Tranche 545 has not been announced.
This consists of routes R1, R2, R3, R4, R6, R8 and R11.

Tranche 546 has not been announced.
This consists of routes 273, 380, 624, 625 and 658.

Tranche 547:
Route 235 has been awarded from Abellio London to Metroline from Brentford (AH) garage with brand new Enviro 200 MMCs.



Route 237 has been retained by Metroline using the existing Wright Gemini 2 buses.

Route 696 has been retained by London United RATP Group with SP class buses.

All contracts start on 7th January 2017, with 696 on the 21st January 2017 instead.

Tranche 548:
Route 59 has been retained by Arriva London with existing Borismaster buses.

Route 133 has been retained by Arriva London with existing HVs from route 76, and also with brand new Enviro 400 City buses. Route 333 has been awarded to Arriva London from Go-Ahead London as well, with brand new Enviro 400 City buses. It has not been clearly indicated as to where 133 and 333 will operate from (it is expected that there is a chance 133 may transfer garages), although hints are showing Brixton (BN) at the moment.

Route 360 is still outstanding from this tender.

Routes 133, 333 and 360 contract start date is on the 21st January 2017 whilst 59 starts on the 28th January 2017.

Tranche 549:
Route 76 has been awarded to Go-Ahead London from Northumberland Park (NP) with new Borismasters. This route is currently operated by Arriva London from Tottenham (AR) and will release around 20 HVs to Brixton (BN) for route 133.

Route 139 has been removed from the tender programme

Route 476 has been retained by Go-Ahead London using existing vehicles. The vehicles will be refurbished.

All contract start dates on the 28th January 2017. 

Tranche 550:
Route 10 has been retained by London United RATP Group with Wright Borismasters.

Start date: 28th January 2017.


Tranche 551:
Route 89 has been retained by London General with 17 existing Enviro400 Double Deckers

Tranche 553:
Route 259 has been awarded to Arriva London from Tottenham (AR) garage with brand new hybrid double decker vehicles. Contract start date on the 29th March 2016. 

Routes 617 and 629 are outstanding from this tender.
